Gary Sinise’s son passed away at a very young age, only 33 years old

McCanna Anthony “Mac” Sinise, the son of Gary Sinise, passed very tragically at the early age of 33. On January 5, 2024, Mac, who had been fighting the rare cancer known as Chordoma, passed away. This marked the conclusion of a difficult five and a half year battle with the illness.

As the Assistant Manager of Education & Outreach, Mac Sinise began working with the Gary Sinise Foundation in February 2017. In his capacity, Mac managed events, tours, and outreach programs, particularly for first responders, veterans, military service members, and their families. He was also heavily active in maintaining and digitizing the foundation’s archive.
Gary praised Mac’s gregarious demeanor and commitment to service, expressing his happiness that his son was supporting the foundation’s goals.

Throughout his cancer fight, Mac exhibited incredible fortitude and spirit. He continued to participate in the foundation’s activities for as long as he could, in spite of the frightening diagnosis and the strenuous treatments that followed. He was able to build strong connections with people thanks to his love of music, especially drumming, and he even performed with the Lt. Dan Band.
