JK Rowling gives £70,000 to contest the idea that men can change into women.

To support a feminist organization’s effort to get a “historic” Supreme Court decision declaring that men cannot become women, J.K. Rowling has donated £70,000.

In a protracted legal dispute with the Scottish Government over whether biological men can lawfully become women under UK law, the author of the Harry Potter series promised to donate the money to For Women Scotland, which is taking the case all the way to the UK Supreme Court.

The group prevailed in a previous case wherein it was determined that the SNP’s stance, which claimed that all individuals who identified as women should be treated as such for the purposes of enacting gender quotas for public boards, was illegal.
It did, however, lose a lawsuit that contested revised guidelines that said biological men were considered women if they had obtained a gender recognition certificate (GRC) that represented a female identity.

The case will have wider implications for the legal status of trans persons in Britain, even though the main focus of the dispute is Holyrood legislation meant to increase the proportion of women on public boards. Following her donation, Rowling sent a note to the group saying, “You know how proud I am to know you.” “I appreciate all of your effort and tenacity. This situation is indeed historic.
