Elon Musk says first Neuralink brain chip has been implanted in a human

In pure Elon Musk fashion, the billionaire CEO took to X to give the world an update on the latest developments for his Neuralink company.

Musk’s brain-computer implant has long been in the works and his company have previously stated their goal is to ‘create a generalized brain interface to restore autonomy to those with unmet medical needs today and unlock human potential tomorrow.’

Well, they very much could be on their way with that goal according to Musk.

Writing on X on Monday, he said: “The first human received an implant from Neuralink yesterday and is recovering well. Initial results show promising neuron spike detection.” He also gave a little peek into the upcoming marketing of the product, noting that the first Neuralink product will be called telepathy.

Musk continued in a follow up tweet: “Enables control of your phone or computer, and through them almost any device, just by thinking. Initial users will be those who have lost the use of their limbs.

“Imagine if Stephen Hawking could communicate faster than a speed typist or auctioneer. That is the goal.”

Despite Musk’s optimism, some social media users were more apprehensive of this latest technological push forward.

“Imagine how much control the government would have over someone,” wrote on user.Musk’s brain-computer implant has long been in the works.
“Just because you can doesn’t mean you should,” added another.

“Hard pass for me Elon. Sounds like some mark of the beast type ish,” a third wrote.

However, some users were optimistic about the possibilities and the scientific applications.

“This is great news for people with hemiplegia. They will have a complete possibility of becoming normal people,” one X user wrote.

“I have said that one day will be able to post on X with just using our minds! Its pretty much happening. This is going to change and improve so many lives, thank you to the entire Neuralink team,” another commented.
