Drama has never been absent from New York City, whether it be in Broadway productions, the sporadic tabloid scandal, or, most recently, the city’s adored football team, the New York Jets. This time, the story centres on two well-known football players: Colin Kaepernick, who is always contentious, and the head coach of the Jets.
This week, a source with direct ties to the Jets organisation disclosed some quite startling information: the team’s venerable head coach allegedly threatened to quit “on the spot” if Colin Kaepernick were to sign with the team. The cause? The head coach himself described Kaepernick as “nothing but trouble.”For those uninitiated, Kaepernick, the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback, has remained unsigned since the 2016 season. His decision to kneel during the national anthem as a form of peaceful protest against racial inequality and police brutality in America led to a contentious nationwide debate. The Jets’ head coach, who has always been known for his straight-shooting style, didn’t hold back his sentiments. “Listen,” he began during a press conference, “I respect every player’s right to voice their opinion and stand up for what they believe in. But I’ve always believed that there’s a time and place for everything. On the field, we need unity, focus, and a single-minded determination to win. I don’t need the distractions.”
