After a “awkward” exchange between Matthew McConaughey and Joy Behar, Whoopi Goldberg saves “The View”

“It’s playing a game that I’m not interested in playing.”

View viewers witnessed some really fascinating moments when Matthew McConaughey promoted his recently released children’s book, Just Because.

On September 12, the actor made an appearance at the show’s recording to talk about his movie with Whoopi Goldberg, Alyssa Farah Griffin, Joy Behar, Sara Haines, and Sunny Hostin.

All seemed well with the talk until they screened a video from 2006 that showed Matthew massaging Joy’s feet. Joy touched the table after displaying it, and to everyone’s amazement, Matthew obliged by massaging it. Joy responded, “Thank you,” when Whoopi said, “We’re just going to let all of that go by,” capping the exchange after almost a minute.

However, once the actor explained why he launched a new project for his Just Keep Living Foundation, the conversation took a far more serious turn. Through the Greenlights Grant Initiative, schools can apply for grants from the government to fund the creation of safer learning environments. It started when Matthew and his spouse became interested in school safety following the horrifying massacre at Matthew’s hometown of Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas.

“We found out these superintendents have to fill out these grants — a lot of them are also driving the school bus, they’re the PE teacher and this grant is 50 pages and intimating, so they don’t have the expertise or the time,” Matthew said.

After seeing and learning more about Matthew’s commitment, over the past few months, many people have suggested he run for political office. When Sunny brought up the topic, Matthew made it clear that it’s not out of the question, but right now, he’s focusing on fatherhood. But when Joy asked him if he thought he could become an elected official in his home state of Texas while being “anti-gun,” things took a turn.

“One thing about me and politics is — to give you a direct statement right there,” Matthew said while pointing at her. “It’s playing a game that I’m not interested in playing.” That led Joy to hold up her hands and say, “Okay, don’t do it.” You can see it at the 10:06 mark:
